In 2013 1st Totton Girls’ Brigade company celebrated it’s 80th anniversary and contacted former members to share their memories, photo’s and information to help create a chronicle to document the history of the company and it’s many achievements ( see Company History page). Along with our then brother orgnisation 1st Totton Boys Brigade, we held a number of events to celebrate our special anniversary.
We held a reunion and celebration evening in 6th of February, meeting up with ex members from 30 years ago. We also had a celebration disco for current members and sleepover. During the year it was also the 120th anniversary of Girls' Brigade Nationally.
The Company Captain at this time was Mrs Jan McCarthy, who joined herself as a GB member as an Explorer, become an Officer in 1992 and than spent 4 years at 1st Woodley Company (West Berkshire) due to work, before returning to Totton in 2002 to take on the role of Captain until 2021.
Sadly, our brother Boys Brigade company closed that year, when the then Captain Andrew Ferris had to move away for work and no one came forward to take on the role.
2023 was our 90th anniversary year. Despite many changes in uniform, programme, location and activties over the years, our GB company survived the Covid Pandemic of 2020 and celebrated our 90 years under the leadership of a new Captain, Lousie Yates.
There were special badges awarded and a thanks giving church Service with our then GB Chaplain Rev. Trish Davis. We have a display board at Trinity charting our company history over the last 90 years and acknowledging those who have supported us in so many ways.
